Scenes from The Remembrance Day Ceremony – War Memorial Water Street Side

So The day was going along at the regular speed. But then i noticed the lady holding this sign “I Want My Kids” – I’m really not sure of her story at all. I am kind of intrigued to say the least… but on a day of remembrance, is it really the forum to push your agenda? thoughts? Does anyone know her story?

  1. I wondered the same thing about the lady. I was on the other side (by the steps leading down from Target) when she walked by. A few reporters tweeted that she’s done this at least two times before. No idea what her story is though.

  2. I don’t know anything about her but I saw her walking down Columbus Drive by the Village yesterday holding the same sign.

    • If i saw her somewhere (other than at a rememberance day ceremony) i would be inclined to ask her about it… i dont think anyone wanted to open her can of worms at the ceremony though.

  3. I don’t know her story either.. However, I am conflicted with how I feel about this. My instinct reaction tells me it is wrong to “push your agenda”, as you stated, during a special ceremony honouring the war veterans. However, isn’t that the beauty of what we’re celebrating? Those who fought for our right to free speech and demonstration? So yes, I’m still emotionally confused about this.

  4. She looks like the lady that used to hang out infront of Coffee and Co during my time at Nellies, lady was schizophrenic and hauled away on numerous occasiosn

  5. This is funny because I live in Vancouver and have been to St. John’s only twice in the last five years and then for very brief interludes (the last trip was four days in January. I have encountered this woman though. She was in a bus with this sign held in front of her telling people that her children had been removed from her custody and she was fighting to get them back. I can’t remember when this was and in fact, my memory keeps trying to trick me into thinking it was in Vancouver but it seems evident that this happened in NL.She seemed sad and a little non compos mentis.

  6. I spoke to this lady and her story to me was that Child Protective Services took her kids for no other reason than she had “swatted her daughter’s behind” in public (her words). My heart goes out to her, but she appears to have some sort of mental illness judging by the inconsistancies I took note of in her conversation with me.
